With Crown Casinos already making plans to build a new casino in Australia, it seems that there isn’t anymore room for casino development plans right now. As such, Clive Palmer’s Coolum Casino plans may be out of luck and Sunshine Coast politicians do not seem eager to help them come to life.
For the past few months, Palmer has been announcing his plans to build a new casino resort on the Sunshine Coast. He has some big plans, including a 1000-room luxury hotel, a hovercraft port and a monorail – and local politicians do not believe that the idea is feasible. Whether or not the funds can be generated to built to casino and if it will even attract visitors are issues that are still up in the air.
“We have a lot of doubts about the veracity of that project,” says Sunshine Coast Deputy Jeff Seeney.
With the pokie reform debate heating up, it seems that the last thing the country needs is a new casino – especially with Crown’s plans to build a new gambling venue soon. Palmer may be sent back to the drawing board to think up a better plan for improving the local economy, outside of the gambling market.
