The Queensland government is currently in the process of reviewing proposals for a new development on the Gold Coast that will boost tourism. Last year, several companies submitted their ideas, and SkyCity is one operator that has made the cut.
SkyCity Entertainment Group is working with the Brookfield Multiplex under the name Azure Consortium. Together, the two groups have devised a proposal for a world-class casino and hotel complex that will attract tourists from around the world and across Australia. After submitting the initial proposal, Azure Consortium has been short-listed for the contract.
Now, the operator will move on to the second step of the bidding process. SkyCity and the Brookfield Multiplex will learn more about the requirements and goals of Queensland politicians before submitting a more in-depth proposal.
SkyCity will likely follow the trend set by Australia operators Echo Entertainment and Crown Limited. These two companies have shifted their focus to high roller gamblers that hail from Asia and, to stay current, SkyCity would have to enter into the running for this market. It is rumoured that the operator is planning on spending upwards of $1 billion on the development, so the Gold Coast could be home to a new luxury gambling venue that is on par with The Star casino in Sydney.
