The executive team at PlayTech have had a busy year so far, as the company has spent the past few months snatching up various gaming operators in different fields. The most recent acquisition comes this week, as PlayTech has purchased Best Gaming Technology (BGT) for $152.6 million.
BGT is a manufacturer of self-service betting terminals. These are games that are placed in betting shops that allow punters to place their own bets on their favourite sports. The company provides over 24 000 machines to shops across the UK, Ireland, Spain, Austria and Germany. While there are no official plans on how the acquisition will exactly benefit PlayTech, it will likely have something to do with the company’s Virtual Sports offering.
The last two companies that Playtech acquired were in vastly different fields. Quickspin AB, which was purchased for over $70 million, is an online slots developer while Funtactix, which was purchased for an undisclosed about, is a casual games designer. With Best Gaming Technology under its belt, PlayTech continues to diversify its online gambling portfolio.
“We believe that the future of gaming is for retail operators to digitise their offering, creating an opportunity to extend beyond retail and into online including web and mobile,” reads a statement from PlayTech CEO Mor Weizer. “This follows the same trends we see in other commercial sectors around the world with the modernisation and digitisation of betting shops not only improving the retail experience but also adding a whole new channel as it integrates into an online offering”.
This is an exciting time for PlayTech, as the company expands its omni-channel online gaming offering. Over the course of the next few months, we will really see the company flourish by providing players with a wider range of ways to play their favourite games online.
